Fran Kertesz has been involved in sewing as a business since 1977. Before that she was a Home Economics teacher and earned a Master’s degree in Child development. Sewing has always been her passion and she has a diverse background including: alterations, piece work, custom sewing and she has been involved in sewing machine repair and sales since 1990. Fran and her family moved to Wilmington in 1996 when she opened Sewing Circle. The store has since grown and Fran continues to strive to offer the best product and service to her customers.
Andrea Anderson has been living in Wilmington since 1993 with her husband. Andrea has enjoyed the art of quilting for many years, has been sewing since she was in high school, and has been a staff member of Fran’s since 2003. Andrea likes to create challenging pieced quilts, play with color, and come up with her own original quilt designs, and in her spare time
she prefers to bake, play tennis, bike, swim, and sew. Andrea teaches many of the quilting classes that we offer at the Sewing Circle and she also teaches other projects that she thinks others would enjoy.
Barbara Whitfield has lived in Wilmington for 25 years and has been working at Fran’s for over 8 years. She has been sewing a total of 50 years, got started by sewing doll clothes at an early age. Barbara mostly loves to make fashion clothing, bags, and quilts. She also likes to teach fun quick projects here at the store. When Barbara isn’t working at the store she likes to be outside in her garden or be in her sewing room working on new techniques.
Mary Ann Contri has been living in Carolina Beach for 10 years. She loves quilting and sewing for her granddaughters. She has been quilting for 20 years and sewing since she was in high school. She enjoys teaching others to quilt. In her spare time, Mary Ann loves to cook, walk on the beach and be with her granddaughters.
Debbie White has lived in North Carolina her whole life. Her favorite fabric line is Tula Pink, she loves to create handbags, and travel to new places in her camper. She is extremely knowledgeable about machine embroidery- she loves exploring new tips and tricks! She is also our Scan N' Cut
guru. Debbie teaches our monthly Hoop It Up! and Scan N' Cut classes. You can always find her teaching someone a new trick!
Lydia King was born in Wilmington, and has been sewing for 12 years. She started teaching our kid’s camps in 2013 and loves to help children find their passion for sewing! She likes to make bags, hand embroidery projects, and apply her sewing knowledge to her art. Lydia is currently earning her associate's degree at CFCC. In her spare time, she likes to go to the beach, pet cats, and spend time in her sewing room.Rachel O' Leary is originally from Cary and is going to UNCW to earn a degree in Marketing. She has been dabbling in sewing for 10 years- she loves experimenting with paper piecing and other fun techniques. Her favorite fabric line is Cotton and Steel. In her spare time, she likes be sassy, spend time with friends, and be involved in her sorority.Natalie Hall is the newest member of the shop. She has been sewing for over 15 years and loves to make apparel! Her favorite fabric line is Cotton and Steel, and she is great at picking out coordinating fabrics! In her spare time she loves spending time with her family and her chickens. You can refer to her as the Port City Seamstress!
